San Francisco has a long history of day drinking and plenty of places to do it. In the Barbary Coast days, there were more bars than just about any other establishment in what is now the Jackson Square area.
It is with that rich history of day drinking in mind that we give you the Daydrinker Cocktail. When you are having a midday cocktail along with a leisurely lunch, you aren’t looking for what I affectionately refer to as “Old Man Cocktails” (like my Boston Sour or a classic Manhattan.)
For day drinking, you want something light and refreshing, more along the lines of the Hemingway Daiquiri. But with more of a tropical kick. And that’s when you need to try our Daydrinker Cocktail.
While it’s optional to add a tiny umbrella (as I always do with the Hawaiian Stone Sour), it’s a fun addition if you have them on hand (as long as you don’t have cats who see them as an invitation to knock over your cocktail).
A Note About Choosing Rum for the Daydrinker Cocktail
You may be tempted to try this cocktail with a dark rum or a spiced rum or even a coconut rum. After all, we all have a selection of random rums in the back of that cabinet above the fridge, right? Right? But I encourage you to stick with white rum for this cocktail.
