Happy Friday!
I’m writing this today sitting in a conference room in Layton, Utah, eating my breakfast at the Everything Food Conference with my friend Brandie.
It’s been a bit of a rough start this morning, and not just because I had to get up early enough to be here by 7:45 a.m. Mountain time (a time when I am usually still asleep back at home). Last night, we went to a sponsored dinner at a local restaurant and something I ate kept me up all night.
That’s the thing with food allergies and sensitivities. Even if you try to be really careful, sometimes things still slip through. Ugh.
Luckily, that isn’t my only food memory from this trip. I got here on Tuesday so I could od some exploring in Salt Lake City before the conference started. After a visit to the Utah Natural History Museum, Brandie and I had a lunch of shared small plates at The Copper Onion in downtown SLC. It was a delicious selection of seasonal small plates that would not have been out of place at one of our favorite California farm-to-fork restaurants. I wish I had more time so I could visit the chef’s other venues.
We also have had some excellent coffee, including at Three Pines in SLC and Future Coffee in Layton.
It’s been nice to have some time away from the day-to-day work to give myself a time out and focus on my food writing here on this blog. I’ve got a lot of things in the works and can’t wait to share them with you.
And now, on to this week’s recipes.
