Every year, since I was a little girl, I’ve made Merry Christmas Cookies. You roll them out, bake them, and decorate them with frosting and hand-tinted sugar and sprinkles. Flavored with honey, they’re a unique little cookie that is the essence of the holidays for me. In high school, I’d invite friends over to help me decorate, sharing the tradition….

We’ve tried a number of gluten-free pizzas from our local pizzerias, and although some are pretty good, we haven’t found one to rival our favorite glutinous pizza go-to….
Growing up, we had a bed full of strawberry plants that stretched along the entire Western side of our house. It was one of my chores to make sure to keep them watered, and to pick them. And when we had far more strawberries that were ripe than we could eat in the next day or two, we’d make jam.
As an adult, I discovered the joyful combination of strawberries and rhubarb, and I was hooked. The rhubarb is a nice way to keep the strawberries’ sweetness from becoming overpowering. Every summer, I’d make a strawberry and rhubarb pie or two during peak season….
I’m going to Outside Lands this year, and I have to admit, I was a little concerned about how much there would be for me to eat, as a gluten-intolerant attendee. Was I going to need to bring in a backpack full of gluten-free breakfast bars to make it through the day? Turns out I should have had more faith in my city, San Francisco, and our gluten-free food friendliness….
